Wow. Izzy has actually been sleeping well this week. I KNOW, I almost can’t believe it myself! After weeks of waking every 1.5-2 hours to play, and talk, and laugh, she has been waking about once a night. Hallelujah. We revisited the Ferber method, because all of the cosleeping, nursing down, and “No Cry Sleep Solutions” in the world weren’t doing a thing for us. I have come to realize that the less we bother Izzy when she’s sleepy, and its time for bed, the more likely she is to go down (and stay down) peacefully. I think I would cry too, if I was trying to sleep and somebody kept bothering me, lol. The first night, Izzy cried for about 5 minutes, then I went to check on her, make sure her diaper was good, return her paci, etc, etc. Once I left, she cried for maybe 1 more minute, and then conked out, lol. She woke about 3 times the first night, and the most she cried was the 10 minute mark. The second night, she woke up twice, and didnt cry past the 5 minute mark, and since then, she has only been waking once, to nurse.
I know, I know, Im a horrible, abusive mother for letting her cry. (insert sarcasm) I guess I’ve ruined her for life, but she’s happy and well rested for now. I’ll pay the piper later. 🙂 A lot of people feel that this method is harsh, but me not being able to function because Im not getting any sleep (yes, it was that bad), or having an anxiety attack (again, yes, it was that bad) or worst case scenario, harming her out of frustration (no, it wasnt nearly THAT bad) seems about a zillion times more harsh. But hey, thats just me.
ANYWAY, though, lol, the point of this post is not to rant, its to brag about the fact that Im getting about 3 and then 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night now! And of course, because Im bragging, Izzy is probably about to make it a personal mission to keep me up 10 hours a night. Because she’s a boss, and that’s how she rolls!
She HAS been waking up rather early, about 6am, but I attribute that to her earlier bedtime of 7pm. Im sure its a combination of little changes that has brought about this change, including the fact that she has pretty much mastered the whole walking thing. le sigh. At least it gets me up early enough to get everything done, right?
