Izzy had her worst spill so far yesterday evening. We were playing with her, and she tripped, and hit her mouth on the ottoman. Right at the extremely odd angle that is the ONLY angle that the ottoman could have caused her any injury. *sigh* It happened so fast that I first though she had hit her forehead, which really, really freaked me out, because how do you know how serious a head injury “really” is? She hit it at a pretty good speed too. Did I mention that she tries to “run”? *2nd sigh* I have never heard her scream like that. I never want to hear it again.
She hit the top of her gums, pretty bad. It was a bloody mess. I wondered if she had bit herself, but I think that if the bottom of her mouth had hit, her bottom lip would have puffed up. Her top lip though….*3rd sigh*. We tried to give her an ice cube in her mesh feeder, to numb the pain, but she screamed every time she tried to suck on it. *4th sigh* I let her nurse, which seemed to calm her down, but she pulled off every 30 seconds or so to cry. I think any sucking, period was hurting her mouth, which is why I didn’t try nursing in the first place. *5th sigh*
I hesitated on giving her tylenol, since I know it’s more for sick than hurt, but I figured that it couldn’t do any harm, so we gave her a dose. After more cuddling from mommy and daddy (and probably the tylenol kicking in) she was back to her bubbly, goofy self. *relieved sigh*
Im hoping that her mouth is ok, but I don’t want to overlook any possible trauma that may have been caused to her mouth. Her teeth have been coming in very slowly, and she hates having people look in her mouth, so she very well could have had teeth coming in on top that we didnt know about. Im debating on taking her to her pediatrician to be looked at tomorrow, just to be sure. I don’t want them getting sick of me though, lol. I think i’ll just call, and run it by the nurse to see if she thinks it’s worth bringing her in.
In other Izzy news, she leaned some new consonant sounds! She now says “ma-ma. ma-ma-ma-ma-ma. ma-ma.” and some na-na-na-na-na, but that “m” sound is much more exciting for me, lol. Im pretty sure that she is NOT referring to me when she does it, but it doesnt change the fact that it feels pretty darn good to hear that sound. (I say that now. A year from now, I’ll be blogging about how I’m tired of hearing “mommy” every ten seconds. Watch, lol)
