Does it annoy you when people make unnecessary suggestions to you regarding your child? For example, let’s say it’s 40 degrees outside, and you’re visiting someone, baby in tow. They say “Make sure you bundle that baby up”, or “Don’t have her out in that cold too long.” Does that annoy anyone else as much as it does me? It’s like….yeah, I was just gonna let her run outside in her diaper in the high winds and freezing rain. Did you really feel like you needed to say that to me? Or, as another example, giving baby certain spices/foods. I use a variety of spices when I cook, and my food can get a little spicy. Guess what? Izzy loves it! The only thing that has ever irritated her tummy is pineapple. Yet, people feel the need to say “Don’t give her that, it will upset her tummy.” No, it upsets YOUR tummy (why am I saying the word tummy?). Leave me the hell alone!!! Like……I don’t want any suggestions regarding the care of my child unless I ask for them. And trust me, I’ve already googled the crap out of it before I ask, because I want the opinions of people that I know.
And that doesn’t apply to actually helpful suggestions, such as “Hey, my baby really likes baked apples. Since Izzy doesn’t want to be fed my spoon, maybe you can try something like that, that she can hold herself.” That’s nice, and I appreciate that. But telling me my child needs a coat when it’s cold outside? How much of an idiot do you REALLY think I am?
Like, do people really think this is ok? I’ve noticed that only older people do this. And I know i’m supposed to respect my elders, but I may have to
go in on politely put someone back in there place. Which is out of my business.
Maybe I’m being too harsh, but this has been going on a little too long. It may have to be nipped in the bud, before I say how I REALLY feel. And that won’t be a fun day for anyone. (except me)
