Everybody talks about how important it is to set goals. A 5,10, and even 20 year plan, to set your life on a path to what you believe to be success. But, those long term plans don’t mean much if they never progress beyond that, if you’re not actively working to meet those goals.
I have a lot of things that I want to do over the next few years. Expanding my family, improving my business, strengthening my marriage, becoming better at keeping house, being the best that I can be for Izzy, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Not necessarily in that order. And not to mention our financial goals!
Byron and I had a plan to save 8 months of expenses, as quickly as we could. We reached that goal the beginning of this month. It took us about 6 months to do that, because we were focused on the plan. It’s not something that just happened. We took the reins on our finances, and we budgeted, and stuck to that budget. Anything extra went to savings. We were serious about it. So…I guess I should get serious about these other things too, huh?
I guess it really comes down to setting goals. So that’s what I’ll do. Small goals, some monthly, some weekly. And everything that I do, should contribute to the success of those goals.
No more just letting life happen. For every category in my life (I mean, I’m personally of the belief that there’s always something you could be doing better.) I will think about how I can improve, and actively work to make those improvements happen.
Short, attainable goals. I’ll make it happen!
